Nirvana – AK-48

Overview

AK-48 is the close relative of the classic, hard-hitting AK-47. An indica-dominant hybrid that still packs the killer punch of her cousin, despite being a drastically different strain in terms of characteristics. Birthed by Nirvana Seeds in the Netherlands, AK-48 is a cross between Jack Horror and Ice, two strains which were also established by the Dutch seedbank.

What separates AK-48 from other AK strains is her short flowering time, roughly between 7-8 weeks. This is thanks to her indica heritage, whereas the rest of the family tree are sativa-dominant and thus take a lot longer. An ideal grow for beginners as she requires little maintenance and her short stature means training isn’t necessary, unless growing indoors with limited space. Yields are very reasonable too: 300g/m². Pairing her yields with the flowering time, she may also be of interest to commercial growers.

Unfortunately, the downside of AK-48 is her unaesthetically pleasing look. Her buds are really dull and lacklustre. The pistils are described as a ‘burnt-orange’. Although, she still glistens with a decent amount of trichomes, reflecting her high THC level of 20%. The buds are easily trimmable too.

The aroma definitely makes up for her appearance. Expect a rich tropical scents, conveying smells of fruits such as pineapple and mango. The odor is pervasive however. Ensuring adequate control measures are in place is essential, and if growing outdoors is your thing, we wouldn’t recommend giving her a go if your not on the best of terms with the neighbors.

Her effects are extremely versatile and unpredictable. Users experience an array of hybrid effects: the cerebral sativa qualities, the indica relaxing body stone, or a combination of the two. Nonetheless, AK-48 is an effective ailment for depression, stress, nausea, chronic pain and insomnia. She’s also good at relaxing the muscles and doesn’t stimulate couchlock like many indica-dominant strains do.

Overall, a very solid strain. Her lack of presentation is massively outweighed by her potent effects, ease of growth, fast flowering time and strong yields. The taste isn’t the greatest, but if you can withstand this, she is a great smoke that can be enjoyed at different times of the day and for a variety of uses. She’s available as a photoperiod and autoflowering.
